About Trachys minutus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Trachys minutus (Linnaeus, 1758) is a small species of beetle that reaches 3 to 3.5 millimeters in length. These beetles are dark-colored, shiny, and slightly hairy. Females lay their eggs on the leaves of deciduous trees, especially elm trees of the genus Ulmus. Its larvae feed on green tissue between the upper and lower layers of leaves, creating hollow cavities called leaf mines. This species occurs in most of Europe, the eastern Palearctic realm, and the Near East.
