About Trachypithecus pileatus (Blyth, 1843)
The capped langur, with the scientific name Trachypithecus pileatus (Blyth, 1843), is a primate species belonging to the family Cercopithecidae. It is native to subtropical and tropical dry forests in northeast India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. This species is arboreal and feeds on 43 distinct plant species. Its confirmed distribution matches its native range: it occurs across northeast India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, and occupies subtropical and tropical dry forest habitats. Studies of capped langurs observed in Arunachal Pradesh found that the animals spend nearly 40% of their daytime feeding. Their diet includes leaves, flowers, and fruits, with leaves making up nearly 60% of their overall diet, and they forage from as many as 43 different plant species.
