It is commonly known by three common names: the African red-sided skink, the red-sided skink, and the Teita mabuya. This species is endemic to the continent of Africa. Its geographic range within Africa spans across Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Togo, and Uganda. Trachylepis perrotetii reproduces by laying eggs, meaning it is oviparous.
