About Trachichthys australis Shaw, 1799

Trachichthys australis, commonly called the southern roughy, is a species of roughy, and it is the only known member of the genus Trachichthys. The genus name comes from two Ancient Greek words: τραχύς (trakhús), which means "rough", and ἰχθύς (ikhthús), which means "fish". This species is native to waters off the coast of Australia, and it lives around coral reefs at depths ranging from 1 metre (3.3 ft) to 1,557 metres (5,108.3 ft). The maximum recorded standard length of this species is 15.0 centimetres, or 5.9 inches.
