About Toxomerus floralis (Fabricius, 1798)

Toxomerus floralis is a species of syrphid fly that belongs to the family Syrphidae. Its native geographic range extends from the southern United States through South America. This species has been introduced to Africa. In Africa, Cyperus rotundus serves as a host plant for Toxomerus floralis from oviposition through pupation. Mitracarpus hirtus is another confirmed host plant for this species. Currently, T. floralis is the only species in the genus Toxomerus where larvae are known to feed on plants from two different families.
