About Tockus ruahae A.Kemp & Delport, 2002
Tockus ruahae, commonly known as the Tanzanian red-billed hornbill, is a small hornbill species belonging to the red-billed hornbill group. They have curved, bright red bills that end in a small dark orange spot. The sclera of their eyes ranges from light orange to dark yellow, and their pupils are typically dark black. Like most hornbill species, both females and males have medium-sized circular patches of black skin around the eyes. Their necks and bellies are greyish-white. As with all red-billed hornbills, their wings have large and small white spots set against black feathers. Their tail feathers are long, with black outer portions and white inner portions. Tanzanian red-billed hornbills are distributed in central Tanzania. They typically roost or nest in trees in forests or savannas where food is abundant.
