About Tockus monteiri Hartlaub, 1865

Tockus monteiri Hartlaub, 1865 is a medium-sized hornbill, measuring 54–58 cm (21–23 in) in length, with a body mass ranging from 210 to 400 g (7.4 to 14.1 oz). It is the largest species in the relatively small Tockus genus. This species has distinct plumage markings: a white belly, black back, white spots on the wings, white secondary flight feathers, and white outer feathers on its long tail. Females are smaller than males, and can be identified by their turquoise facial skin. Both sexes have black eyes and a red beak. This species inhabits the savannah and dry thornveldt of northwestern Namibia and southwestern Angola.
