About Tochuina gigantea (Bergh, 1904)

Tochuina gigantea, commonly known as the giant orange tochui, is a species of sea slug. It is classified as a tritonid nudibranch, a type of marine gastropod mollusk that belongs to the family Tritoniidae. In 1879, Bergh used the name Tritonia tetraquetra in a meaning that differs from how Pallas used the name in 1788. The valid name for the species that Bergh referred to as Tochuina tetraquetra in 1879 is Tritonia gigantea Bergh, 1904. A 2020 revision of the family Tritoniidae explains the complex sequence of misinterpretations of the species described by Pallas and Bergh.
