About Tityus stigmurus (Thorell, 1876)
Tityus stigmurus is a species of scorpion belonging to the family Buthidae, found in Brazil. Adults of this species measure between 4.5 and 6 centimetres (1.8 to 2.4 inches) in length. Their base coloration is either golden-tan or yellowish-brown, with a dark stripe running across the mesosoma, and their pedipalps are either yellowish or orange. This is a fast-growing scorpion species, as individuals reach full maturity in just one year. This species is predominantly distributed across the northeastern regions of Brazil, particularly in the Caatinga region. Its presence has also been recorded in a number of other Brazilian states. Tityus stigmurus is facultatively parthenogenetic. Gestation periods for this species vary, and can range from 9 to 12 months at maximum. Warm enough temperatures can shorten the length of gestation. Females give birth between 3 months and 4 to 5 months after gestation. Brood size ranges from 2 to 16 offspring, with an average of 8 offspring per brood.
