About Tityus fasciolatus Pessoa, 1935
Tityus fasciolatus Pessoa, 1935 is a scorpion species belonging to the family Buthidae. Adult individuals of this species range from 4.5 to 8.5 centimetres (1.8 to 3.3 inches) in length, and have a yellowish-brown base color. Three dark stripes run across the mesosoma, and their pedipalps are either yellowish or orange, marked with dark spots. The first through third segments of the metasoma are yellowish-orange, the fourth metasoma segment is reddish, and the fifth and final metasoma segment is dark red. This species has yellow legs that bear the same dark spots found on the pedipalps. The tarsus is dark in color. The pectines of Tityus fasciolatus have 17 to 25 teeth, and 16 to 18 rows of granules. Tityus fasciolatus is a species of medical importance. Its venom is molecular and very similar to the venom of T. serrulatus. The venom contains at least 10 toxic fractions, with molecular masses ranging from 6 kDa to 10โ80 kDa. The subcutaneous LD50 for this scorpion's venom is 2.984 mg/kg.
