About Tischeria ekebladella (Bjerkander, 1795)

Tischeria ekebladella (Bjerkander, 1795) is a moth species that belongs to the family Tischeriidae. This species is distributed across most of Europe and the Caucasus. It has a wingspan of 8 to 11 millimeters. Its forewings are a deep ochreous yellow color, with diffuse fuscous speckling toward the posterior costa and the apex. The hindwings are a rather dark grey. Tischeria ekebladella is very similar in appearance to the related species Tischeria dodonea, and certain identification of specimens requires examination of prepared genitalia. Adult moths are active on wing from May to June, with timing varying based on location. The larvae of Tischeria ekebladella feed on the leaves of multiple tree species: Castanea mollissima, Castanea sativa, Quercus cerris, Quercus dalechampii, Quercus faginea, Quercus frainetto, Quercus macranthera, Quercus macrocarpa, Quercus macrolepis, Quercus pedunculiflora, Quercus petraea, Quercus pubescens, Quercus robur, Quercus rubra, and Quercus serrata × turneri. Larvae create mines inside the leaves of their host plants.
