Adult males of this species grow to between 5 and 12 millimeters (0.20 to 0.47 inches) long, while adult females reach lengths of 5 to 15 millimeters (0.20 to 0.59 inches). The entire body of Tiphia femorata is black and covered in light-colored hairs. The tibiae and femora of the middle and hind leg pairs are reddish brown.
