About Tinantia anomala (Torr.) C.B.Clarke
Tinantia anomala, commonly called false dayflower or widow's-tears, is a plant species in the Commelinaceae family. It is related to Tinantia pringlei, the Mexican inchplant. This species is mostly found in Texas; only one specimen has ever been recorded from the Mexican state of Durango. It grows in habitats including rocky slopes, ravines, and woodland edges. Tinantia anomala is an annual herb that can reach up to 80 cm (32 inches) in height. Its basal leaves have petioles, while its stem leaves do not. Its flowers are bicolored, being primarily white with accents of blue or lavender.
