About Timarcha tenebricosa (Fabricius, 1775)

Timarcha tenebricosa measures 15–20 mm in length, and is blue-black in colour. It is both larger and has a more constricted pronotum base than the visually similar Timarcha goettingensis, commonly called the lesser bloody-nosed beetle. Its body is strongly curved, while its elytra are smooth and finely punctuated. Its antennae are thick and well segmented, and its legs have long tarsi that end in a double hook. This beetle is found in southern and central Europe, and is common in Britain and Ireland.
