About Timandra comae Schmidt, 1931
This species has the scientific name Timandra comae Schmidt, 1931. Its wings are cream-coloured, with bold red or purple fascia that forms a diagonal stripe across both the forewings and hindwings. All wings have fringes that match the colour of this fascia. The tornus of the hindwing is sharply angled, which gives the moth a distinctive overall shape. The wingspan of Timandra comae ranges from 30 to 35 mm. This moth has a scattered distribution across western and central Europe, located north of the Alps. In the British Isles, its distribution is patchy across areas outside of southern England and Wales. In far eastern Europe, east of an approximate line running from Finland through Estonia, this species is replaced by its sister species Timandra griseata. These two species were originally split in 1931, but were later re-merged by most authors. Since 1994, new research has supported treating them as separate distinct species.
