About Tillandsia violacea Baker

Tillandsia violacea Baker is an epiphytic flowering plant species that belongs to the Bromeliaceae family. This species is endemic to Mexico, found mostly on the Central Mexican Plateau. It grows at elevations ranging from 600 to 3,100 meters, where it lives as an epiphyte on large trees in humid temperate forests. It most commonly grows on the tree species Abies religiosa, Quercus rugosa, and Quercus laurina. It is a notably common epiphyte in the temperate pine forests of Hidalgo state, including El Chico National Park. Its native range also covers the Mexican states of Guerrero, Jalisco, the state of Mexico, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca, and Veracruz. Because of its natural high-elevation habitat, this bromeliad can tolerate sub-freezing conditions.
