Thymalus limbatus, first formally described by Fabricius in 1787, is a beetle species that belongs to the family Thymalidae. This species occurs in the Palearctic realm. It is an obligate saproxylic species, most commonly found under the bark of host trees including Betula pendula, Fagus sylvatica, Tilia × europaea, and Picea abies. Thymalus limbatus feeds on fungus or dead wood.
