About Thraupis palmarum (Wied-Neuwied, 1821)

Description: Adult palm tanagers (Thraupis palmarum) measure 19 cm (7.5 in) in length and weigh 36 g (1.3 oz). Their plumage ranges from grey to dull olive-green. The flight feathers are blackish, and the long tail is blackish with green edges. A yellow wingbar becomes visible when the bird is in flight. Males and females have similar appearance, though females are often somewhat paler than males. Range and habitat: This species lives in semi-open areas, including cultivated land and gardens. It builds a bulky cup-shaped nest, most often in a tree (typically a palm) or under the eaves of a house. The female incubates three (or sometimes two) cream eggs marked with brown blotches for 14 days. Young birds fledge 17 days after hatching.
