Thinopyrum junceum (L.) Á.Löve, commonly known as sand couch-grass, is a grass species belonging to the Poaceae family. It is native to Europe and temperate Asia, and grows from rhizomes. This species has a self-supporting growth form, with simple, broad leaves. Individual plants can reach a height of 52 cm. As a close relative of wheat, Thinopyrum junceum has natural salt tolerance. Hybridization between Thinopyrum junceum and wheat produces a salt-tolerant wheat variety.
