About Theridula emertoni Levi, 1954

Theridula emertoni, formally described by Levi in 1954, is a species of tangle web spider commonly found in the United States and Canada. Before this species was formally described in 1954, collected specimens of T. emertoni were frequently misclassified as T. opulenta, another species whose geographic range overlaps with that of T. emertoni. This species can be reliably distinguished from T. opulenta by examining the epigyne in females, or the pedipalp in males. Adult females of T. emertoni measure between 1.7 and 2.8 mm in body length, while adult males measure between 1.6 and 2.3 mm in body length.
