About Theridiosoma gemmosum (L.Koch, 1877)
Theridiosoma gemmosum is a small spider species. Females measure 2โ3 mm in body length, while males are smaller at 1.5โ2 mm. For both sexes, the carapace, the upper surface of the cephalothorax, is dark brown. The upper surface of the abdomen, also called the opisthosoma, is silvery, with variable dark lines and markings. The abdomen has a globular shape, appearing roughly circular when viewed from above. The male palpal bulbs and the female epigyne have unique, identifiable features. This species has a Holarctic distribution, meaning it occurs across the northern and central regions of the Northern Hemisphere. It is considered rare in northern Europe, which includes Great Britain and Ireland. It typically inhabits damp areas, living among low-growing vegetation.
