About Texosporium sancti-jacobi (Tuck.) Nádv. ex Tibell & Hofsten
Texosporium is a genus of lichenized fungi that belongs to the family Caliciaceae. The genus is monotypic, meaning it contains only one species: Texosporium sancti-jacobi. This species is found in the United States. The genus is defined by a distinct microscopic characteristic: its ascospores are covered by a layer of cells that originate from the paraphyses. Texosporium was first circumscribed by Josef Nádvorník in 1942, but the original publication of the genus name was not valid. Leif Tibell and Angelica van Hofsten validly published the genus name in 1968. In 2020, Texosporium sancti-jacobi was added to the global IUCN Red List, where it is classified as endangered.
