About Teucrium junceum (A.Cunn. ex Walp.) Kattari & Heubl

Teucrium junceum (A.Cunn. ex Walp.) Kattari & Heubl is an openly-branched, scrambling shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1 to 2 meters (3 feet 3 inches to 6 feet 7 inches), and has glabrous stems that are square in cross-section. Its leaves are arranged in opposite pairs, and are narrow-elliptic or lance-shaped, measuring 3โ€“18 mm (0.12โ€“0.71 in) long and 2โ€“3 mm (0.079โ€“0.118 in) wide. On older stems, leaves are often scale-like or shed entirely. Flowers grow from a pedicel about 3 mm (0.12 in) long, accompanied by scale-like bracts that are 0.5โ€“1.5 mm (0.020โ€“0.059 in) long. This species has five sepals 1.5โ€“2.5 mm (0.059โ€“0.098 in) long, and white petals 3โ€“4 mm (0.12โ€“0.16 in) long. Flowering occurs mainly in summer, and the fruit is an orange to red drupe 2โ€“4 mm (0.079โ€“0.157 in) in diameter. Teucrium junceum grows in dry forest, including dry rainforest. It is widespread in eastern Queensland, ranging from south of near Mount Surprise to near Camden in New South Wales.
