About Tetraponera rufonigra (Jerdon, 1851)
Tetraponera rufonigra is a species of ant that belongs to the subfamily Pseudomyrmecinae. It is distributed across Southeast Asia. It is commonly known as the bi-coloured arboreal ant. As an arboreal species, it builds small nests by excavating holes, usually in the dried portions of trees. Tetraponera rufonigra are active hunters that prey on small insects. They have a well-developed sting, and stings from this ant can cause allergic reactions in humans. In the Sinhala language, this ant is called "Hath polayaa".
