About Tetralobus flabellicornis

Tetralobus flabellicornis is a large click beetle that grows to a body length of 60 to 80 millimetres, equal to 2.4 to 3.1 inches. Individuals have a dark brown to black body covered in brownish grey pubescence, which shows weak to medium reflectance in the near-infrared. This species shows clear sexual dimorphism in antennae shape: males have quite long antennae that bear large lamellae, while females have serrate antennae. The larvae of Tetralobus flabellicornis live inside termite nests, and adult beetles feed on Acacia trees. This species is widespread across South Africa, Namibia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal, Zambia, Zanzibar, Liberia and Zaire, and it inhabits savannah and subtropical forests.
