About Tetragnatha hasselti Thorell, 1890
This species is Tetragnatha hasselti Thorell, 1890. In Thorell’s original description, females of this species reach a total body length of about 12 millimeters. The female cephalothorax measures approximately 3.5 mm long and 1.5 mm wide. The species is defined by its distinctive chelicerae: these chelicerae are long, strongly curved outward at the base, and have a complex arrangement of teeth along the cheliceral furrow. The cephalothorax ranges from dark brown to blackish in color. The abdomen looks grayish-silver, because dense minute silvery-white spots are scattered across its dark grayish-black base color. Legs are colored yellowish to reddish-testaceous. T. hasselti is widely distributed across Asia, and has been specifically recorded from India, China, and Indonesia’s Sulawesi island. Across its range, the species is particularly common in rice field habitats. Tetragnatha hasselti is most commonly found in rice fields and other agricultural habitats.
