About Tetradymia tetrameres (S.F.Blake) Strother
Tetradymia tetrameres is a species of flowering plant in the aster family, with the common names fourpart horsebrush and dune horsebrush. It is native to the Great Basin, growing in western Nevada and just across the state border in Mono County, California. It grows in dry scrub and sand dune habitats. This plant is a bushy, woolly shrub that produces many erect, spineless branches. It is the largest of the horsebrushes, reaching up to two meters in height. Its soft, woolly leaves are narrow and threadlike, growing up to 4 centimeters long, with shorter leaves growing in clusters around the primary leaves. Its inflorescence holds 4 to 6 flower heads, each enveloped in four or five woolly phyllaries. Each flower head contains up to four or five light yellow flowers, each around one centimeter long. The fruit is a hairy achene that can be up to one centimeter long including its pappus made of long bristles.
