About Terrapene mexicana (Gray, 1849)

Terrapene mexicana can reach an overall length of roughly 18 to 20 centimeters, which equals 7.1 to 7.9 inches. Its carapace is long and dome-shaped, with quite variable coloration and markings. Adult males of the species display gray-blue tones on the head and red or orange tones on the front legs. This species is endemic to Mexico, and can be found in the Mexican states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and San Luis Potosí. In its range, it inhabits tropical climate regions, living in humid forests near shallow rainwater puddles.
