About Tephritis conura (Loew, 1844)

Tephritis conura (Loew, 1844) is a species of fly that belongs to Tephritidae, the gall fly family. It occurs throughout the Palearctic region, with a recorded range extending from the United Kingdom and Scandinavia, south and east to Italy, Bulgaria, and the Caucasus. The larvae of this species feed on two thistle species: Cirsium heterophyllum and Cirsium oleraceum. This species has been the subject of study because it has developed host races, each specialized to feed on only one of these two thistle species. This pattern is considered a potential example of ecological speciation in its early stages.
