Tenthredo crassa Scopoli, 1763 is a large sawfly that reaches a body length of approximately 14 to 18 millimetres (0.55–0.71 in). Individuals of this species have a black head, thorax, and abdomen, with black femurs and yellowish tibiae and tarsi. Their antennae are black, with the final three segments colored white. The mandibles are whitish at their base. Their wings are dark yellow along the outer edge, and are blackened across the apical third. This species occurs across most of Europe. It inhabits meadows, forest edges, hills, and mountainous areas, and can be found at elevations of up to 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) above sea level.
