Tenthredo colon Klug, 1817, adults reach a length of approximately 10–13 millimetres (0.39–0.51 inches). Adult sawflies of this species have a black head and black thorax. Their abdomen is black, with a reddish colored area near the tip. The legs are reddish, while the antennae are black with white tips. The larvae of this species are pale brown, marked with a distinct diamond pattern made of diagonal cross lines, and have a darker brown mark on the head. This species can be found living in hedgerows across most of Europe and the Nearctic realm.
