About Tenthredo amoena Gravenhorst, 1807

Tenthredo amoena Gravenhorst, 1807 adults reach a body length of approximately 9 to 11 millimeters, or 0.35 to 0.43 inches. These sawflies have a black body marked with yellowish patches, and short antennae that measure roughly one and a half times the width of the head. The first antennal segment is entirely pure yellow. In males, the first, fifth, and seventh through eighth abdominal tergites are yellow, and the scutellum often has yellow spotting. The wings are pale brown with a long brown pterostigma. In females, the tips of the tibiae and the tarsi are yellow with black markings, and the thighs are completely pure black. This species is quite similar in appearance to Tenthredo distinguenda. It occurs across most of Europe.
