About Templetonia retusa (Vent.) R.Br.
Templetonia retusa (Vent.) R.Br., commonly called cockies tongues, cocky's tongues, or coral bush, is a shrub belonging to the Fabaceae (Leguminosae) family. This species is native to southern and south-western Australia. It grows to a maximum height of 2 metres (6 ft 7 in). Its leaves measure 15โ40 millimetres (0.6โ1.6 in) in length and 7โ25 millimetres (0.3โ1.0 in) in width. Its flowers are typically a rich red color and are 25โ40 millimetres (1.0โ1.6 in) long. The seed pods produced by the shrub are 40โ50 millimetres (1.6โ2.0 in) long and approximately 10 millimetres (0.4 in) wide. Templetonia retusa grows in coastal woodland and heath vegetation growing over limestone, with a distribution that ranges from Shark Bay, Western Australia, to near Kangaroo Island, South Australia, and also extends inland into the Flinders Ranges of South Australia.
