About Temnostoma daochum (Walker, 1849)
Temnostoma daochum (Walker, 1849), also called the Yellow-spotted Falsehorn, is a rare species of syrphid fly found in the eastern United States. Members of this group of flies, commonly called hoverflies, are able to stay nearly motionless while in flight. Adults of this species are also known as flower flies, because they are commonly found on flowers, from which they get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen. Adult flies in the genus Temnostoma are strong mimics of wasps. The larvae of this species burrow in moist decayed wood. This species is distributed within the United States.
