About Temnostoma barberi Curran, 1939
Temnostoma barberi, commonly called the Bare-bellied Falsehorn, is a fairly common species of syrphid fly, also known as a hoverfly. It has been observed in the eastern half of the United States and adjacent areas of Canada. Hoverflies are able to stay nearly motionless while in flight. Adult hoverflies of this species are also called flower flies, because they are commonly found on flowers. They get energy-giving nectar and protein-rich pollen from these flowers. Adult Temnostoma barberi are strong mimics of wasps. The larvae of this species burrow into moist decayed wood. Its confirmed distribution includes Canada and the United States.
