It is native to North America, with confirmed records from the following locations: Alabama, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Brunswick, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Ontario, Quebec, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. This moth has an approximate wingspan of 18 mm. Its forewings are dark purple-fuscous, with a small scattering of white scales near the base. An oblique ochreous-white fascia runs from the one-quarter point of the costa to the middle of the dorsum; this fascia has an anterior margin edged with black suffusion. Posteriorly, the fascia continues as a broad, irregular whitish streak, partially mixed with light grey, that runs along the dorsum to the middle of the termen. Above this streak sits a band of black suffusion mixed with iridescent crimson-bronzy scaling, which extends from the fascia all the way to the apex of the wing. The hindwings of Telphusa longifasciella are pale grey.
