About Telestes muticellus (Bonaparte, 1837)

Telestes muticellus, commonly known as the Italian riffle dace, is a species of ray-finned fish in the family Leuciscidae. This family contains daces, Eurasian minnows, and other related species. Both Telestes muticellus and the Western riffle dace (also called souffia, T. souffia) are sometimes referred to by the common name vairone, and the two species were previously considered to be the same single species. This fish is native to northern Italy and Slovenia. Its natural habitats are rivers and intermittent rivers. The International Union for Conservation of Nature does not classify this species as threatened.
