About Teleiodes luculella (Hübner, 1813)

Teleiodes luculella, commonly known as the crescent groundling, is a moth species belonging to the family Gelechiidae. Its distribution ranges from Europe across to the southern Ural and Transcaucasia. It inhabits woodlands, including oak woodlands. The wingspan of adult moths measures 9–13 mm. The moth's head is white with black mixing. The terminal segment of its labial palpi is shorter than the second segment. The forewings are dark grey with black mixing, with several indistinct whitish spots toward the base. A semicircular white blotch sits on the costa before the middle of the wing, enclosing a blackish mark on the costa, with yellow-ochreous suffusion behind it in the disc. There is a small whitish spot on the tornus, and a larger whitish spot on the opposite costa. The hindwings are grey, with width under 1 unit. The larva is whitish green with black spots, has a yellow-brown head, and the plate on its second segment is yellow-brown with black markings. Adult moths are active on the wing from May to June. The larvae feed on the plants Quercus, Castanea sativa, Betula, Acer and Salix eleagnos.
