Scientific name: Teius teyou (Daudin, 1802). Teius teyou, commonly called the four-toed tegu, is one of the most widespread common lizards native to South America. It is classified in the genus Teius within the family Teiidae. Its range extends from southern Brazil down to Argentina. This lizard inhabits open landscapes, and frequently shelters in rocky areas. It digs its own tunnel under soil and rocks to hide from predators. Its diet consists of insects and spiders.
