About Tegula patagonica (d'Orbigny, 1838)

The shell of Tegula patagonica ranges in size from 10 mm to 21 mm. This thick, umbilicate shell has an orbiculate-conical shape, with fine, narrow granular grooves running across it. The shell is uniformly brownish or purplish in color. Its spire is conical, with an obtuse apex. It has five subcarinate whorls that have excavated sutures between them. The aperture is rounded, and the columella is bidentate. This is a marine species, found between Southern Brazil and Southern Chile, living at depths from 0 m to 57 m.
