About Tegula aureotincta (Forbes, 1852)

The shell of Tegula aureotincta measures between 20 mm and 40 mm in size. The shell itself is broad and low in shape, and the spire has a rough texture. The shell's sculpture is made up of low spiral ridges (most prominent on the body whorl) alongside diagonal ridges. The spire is colored dark gray or olive. The base of the shell has bright yellow or orange tissue surrounding the deep umbilicus. This species is found in the Pacific Ocean, occurring in low intertidal zones and adjacent rocky subtidal shores off Southern California, USA, and Mexico.
