Tectococcus ovatus Hempel, 1900 is a scale insect belonging to the family Eriococcidae within the order Hemiptera. It is also commonly known as the Brazilian Scale. This species is most widely recognized as a potential biological control agent for Psidium cattleyanum, commonly called strawberry guava, in Florida and Hawaii. Tectococcus ovatus forms leaf galls on strawberry guava. Extensive testing has confirmed that this scale insect species is very host-specific.
