About Tapeigaster argyrospila Bezzi, 1923
Adults of Tapeigaster argyrospila are robust flies. The adult body measures 10 mm (0.39 in) in length, and the wings measure 9 mm (0.35 in) in length. Their antennae are reddish, and are significantly shorter than the face. The third antenna joint is circular in shape, and covered in white pruinescence. The frons is purplish and noticeably concave. The occiput is reddish, and each eye has five silvery-white spots bordering it. The proboscis is reddish, and all bristles on the head are black. The thorax is reddish. Thick yellowish dust forms a broad but indistinct longitudinal stripe along the top of the thorax. The sides of the thorax do not have this yellow dusting, and instead have a number of indistinct silvery-white spots. The scutellum is a shining reddish-yellow. The calypters and halteres are yellow. The legs are short and thick, with the fore and hind femora being especially thickened. The femora are shining red in colour, and the fore femora have a large black blotch around the middle. The femora are hairy: they have long whitish or yellowish hairs on their underside, and black hairs on their upper side. The tibiae are black with a broad yellow ring near the middle, and the tarsi are whitish. The wings are yellow with reddish veins. The abdomen is mostly black, with a reddish base and a yellow terminal segment. The genitalia are large and yellow, and covered in yellow hairs.
