About Tamiops maritimus (Bonhote, 1900)

The maritime striped squirrel, whose scientific name is Tamiops maritimus, is also commonly called the eastern striped squirrel. It is a rodent species that belongs to the Sciuridae family. This squirrel can be found in southern and eastern China (including the island of Hainan), Taiwan, and Laos and Vietnam that lie east of the Mekong River. It is active during the day (diurnal) and is highly adapted to living in trees. Its diet consists of fruits, seeds, and insects, and it also includes nectar from Alpinia kwangsiensis, a species of ginger.
