About Tamias townsendii Bachman, 1839
Tamias townsendii Bachman, 1839 is a large species of chipmunk. Adult individuals of this species reach a total length of 36 cm (14 in) from the nose to the tip of the tail. Across most of the area where this species occurs, it is the only chipmunk species present. It can be distinguished from other chipmunks by two key traits: its tail is grayish on the upper side and reddish on the underside, and it has an overall brown body color with faint tawny stripes.
