About Tamarix ramosissima Ledeb.
Tamarix ramosissima Ledeb. is a hardy deciduous shrub or small tree native to Europe and Asia. It is a vigorous plant grown ornamentally for its attractive reddish stems, showy plumes of flowers, and unusual feathery leaves. Its hardiness and tolerance to poor soil make it a popular, easy-to-grow shrub. It can reach a maximum height of 8 metres (26 ft) and a maximum width of 5 metres (16 ft). It can be planted as a screen, windbreak, informal hedge, or specimen shrub. From late summer to early autumn, it produces upright racemes of small, pink, five-petaled flowers that cover the plant’s new wood. It tolerates many soil types, but grows best in well-drained, light or sandy soil located in full sun. This plant is classified as an invasive species in warmer climates. Where it has invaded North America, this tamarisk commonly hybridizes with T. chinensis.
