About Takydromus tachydromoides (Schlegel, 1838)
Takydromus tachydromoides, commonly called the Japanese grass lizard, is a wall lizard species belonging to the genus Takydromus. This species is found exclusively in Japan. Its Japanese name is kanahebi (カナヘビ); the 'hebi' portion of the name means 'snake' in Japanese, even though this animal is a lizard, not a snake. Three lizard species live on Japan's four main islands. The other two species are the Japanese gekko (Schlegel's Japanese gekko, Gekko japonicus), which is called yamori (ヤモリ) in Japanese, and Okada's Five-lined Skink (classified as both Eumeces latiscutatus and Plestiodon latiscutatus), which has five lines on its back that are only visible when the skink is a juvenile. Accepted live foods for this lizard are house crickets, waxworms, and rough woodlice.
