About Taeniopygia bichenovii (Vigors & Horsfield, 1827)

The double-barred finch, with the scientific name Taeniopygia bichenovii (Vigors & Horsfield, 1827), is a munia-like bird that measures 10–11 cm in length. It has a white face outlined by a black border, brown upper body and throat, and white underparts. A second black line separates the throat from the underparts. Its wings feature a brown and white patterned pattern. Adult males and females have similar appearances, while juvenile double-barred finches are duller and browner than adults. The subspecies Taeniopygia bichenovii annulosa differs from the nominate subspecies by having a black rump instead of a white rump.
