About Tachypompilus analis (Fabricius, 1781)

Tachypompilus analis is a medium-sized to large wasp. For mainland China populations, females measure between 16 and 21 mm in length, while smaller males reach 11 mm in length. Individuals from island populations tend to be smaller overall. The wasp's body is almost entirely black. The exception is the metasomal segments: the last four segments are bright orange or red in females, and the last five segments are this color in males. This distinct color pattern gives the species its common name, red-tailed spider wasp. Tachypompilus analis is a widespread species. Its distribution ranges from the Nansei Islands of Japan, through Taiwan and the Philippines, and across southeast and southern Asia. It can also be found in Hawaii.
