The Australasian grebe has the scientific name Tachybaptus novaehollandiae (Stephens, 1826). It is a small waterbird that is commonly found on freshwater lakes and rivers across most of Australia, New Zealand, and nearby Pacific islands. It measures 25 to 27 centimeters (9.8 to 10.6 inches) in total length. Alongside the least grebe and the little grebe, it is one of the smallest species in the grebe family.
